I have come to the conclusion that satan has more money than God. Well not really, but after a brief study of Christians and Atheists it almost makes it seem like it.
For example, I have yet to see the owner of a bar asking for donations so that he or she can renovate the bar, or to financially support the lead singer of the new band playing on Friday nights so that he can take some vocal lessons.
But Christians beg all the time. When you go to church they pass around the bucket with high hopes to collect enough, but it's never enough. The money they collect goes to pay the preacher and other staff, bills, and to support missionaries overseas, as if there isn't enough mission work that can be done next door.
Don't get me wrong I'm not against missionary work. But to send young teens door-to-door asking for donations so that they can go on a missionary trip to help others is just wrong if you ask me. If God does not provide a way without having to beg, perhaps He doesn't want you to go.
Now once again, there is nothing wrong with asking for money. If you strongly believe in a cause you should pursue it, but never at the expense of an atheist. Jesus depended on others to financially support Him, but he never went asking for it. He totally relied on God; when He didn't have a roof to sleep under He went off into the mountains to spend time with God.
I have worked in retail for almost a year now, and I have seen numerous times where people come in asking for donations for their church events. They usually walk out with a ten dollar discount or so, which isn't much, and I know it adds up, but why even bother.
Just the other day I saw a notice up on the wall from a church group thanking the company for donating money for their children's camp. The notice explained that because the company made the donation they were able to provide their service free of charge.
Now I know for a fact that the majority of these camp counselors and overseers get paid from the church, unless of course they are young teens. So how about they donate their time and a few bucks instead of putting the burden on the public.
I am sorry, but if the church does not have the money to put on a free show for these children then perhaps they shouldn't provide one.
Again, I am not against children's camps. I believe that every child should have a summer filled with activities to help them grow, but never at the expense of putting God's name to shame. There are lots of Christians and other churches, why don't they pitch in?
Perhaps the reason they don't is because the god they worship does not have enough money to go around. They need the unbelieving public to help support their activities and their beliefs.
Now on to the story that provoked me to write this article.
When I first started my job in retail there was a certain customer pointed out to me who supposedly is a hooker. I know she doesn't have her own transportation because I see her walking down the street often times. But every time I see her she is always dressed in stylish clothing.
The other day I had the privilege to ring up her sales. She had a friendly tone, and was well mannered. She ended up buying quite a few things, a set of ear-rings and necklace, personal care items, canned and other cheap processed foods. Some of the stuff was heavy and she had a lot of bags, so I offered to help her carry the stuff out.
She took me up on the offer and asked me to carry it over to the grocery store and just put it into a shopping cart for her. On our way over there she told me that she should have gone there first because now she had spent most of her money on stuff that wasn't as needed as food.
I felt bad for her, but I didn't know what to say, so I changed the subject.
After all was said and done, and I was just about to thank her before heading back into the store, when she reached out her hand and handed me a four dollar tip. I backed away, but she insisted I take the money. I told her I was only doing my job and was happy to do it. She told me she really appreciated the help and wanted me to take the money. She said it was a gift and that you cannot refuse a gift.
I took the money and went back into the store. But it really got me thinking; a four dollar tip from a small town hooker with not enough money to pay for her groceries.
She wouldn't have given me the tip if she didn't have faith that she would have enough money to make ends meet. Not many Christians have this kind of faith in their god or they would be more willing to spend their last dime instead of always asking for more.
I believe that God somehow works within these people, even though their lifestyles are contrary to His will. No one will be held accountable for what they don't know, and God can use all sorts of people and draw them to Himself, even at their last breath.
I know He used this lady to further open my eyes to see the truth, and I pray that He has a spot reserved for her in heaven for when she crosses over. Not because she gave me money, but because she allowed God to work through her so my eyes could be opened.
