When reading through the Old Testament many people conclude that God is an angry tyrant who takes pleasure in war, destruction and punishment.
But is that really who God is, and is that what He is trying to make us to think He is?
In all honesty, I believe that impression of God could not be further from the truth. God is a protector of His people and that is the reason why we see so much war, and destruction in the Old Testament. If God had not destroyed the wicked, they would have taken over and destroyed the righteous.
So it was absolutely necessary for God to destroy these nations, and He took absolutely no pleasure in it. I believe it saddened God every time He sent a catastrophe, and every time He gave the command for anyone to go to war; but He had to protect His people, and so He did.
So then who is God if the impression of an angry tyrant is not it. I believe the answer can be found in a little child. I believe that as soon as a child is conceived, God is there to spend time with it. I believe God speaks to every unborn; He sends His angels to sing to them, and play with them. So then when the child is born, even though it has a sinful nature, it resembles the character of God, because they have been under God's influence.
Think about it, have you ever seen a newborn stare off into space, and then all of a sudden let out a laugh, or at least get this huge smile on its face? Babies are not delusional, and I believe when they laugh or smile like that, they see a familiar angel.
It does not matter what kind of family the child is born into; rich, poor, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, or any kind of family; all babies act in a similar nature regardless of their surroundings. As the babies grow, the surroundings, and different lifestyles they grow up in begin to shape their nature, attitudes, and character. Worldly influences begin to corrupt the children and so they all grow up to be very different from each other, even though at one point in time they were very similar in nature.
So what are the young children like? I'm sure that you will agree that they are very loving; they love everybody, and want others to love them also. They don't like to be alone, but rather they enjoy to be in good company. They love to talk and tell you everything there is to know about them; they want you to know who they are. They love to listen to stories, singing and dancing, playing and laughter. Children are eager to help, and love to give gifts.
When a child is wronged, it is quick to forgive, and then it forgets about the past. Children do not hold grudges, but have the amazing ability to forgive and keep on loving.
Just like these young children, God loves everyone and wants to be in good company as well. That is why He created this world, the people and all the angels. He wants us to all be together in heaven one day.
"For God so loved the world..." John 3:16.
He wants us to know him, and He wants us to tell Him everything about us, our life situations, triumphs, and troubles, and is always eager to help in every tough situation.
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16.
God is quick to forgive whenever a sinner repents, and He remembers those sins no more.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9.
"And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." Hebrews 10:17.
God loves to hear joyful singing, laughter, and dancing, and wants to give us eternal life, so we can experience His joys for all eternity.
God has promised that when we repent and believe that He will send us the Holy Spirit, to comfort and guide us.
"And He shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;" John 14:16.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22, 23.
Galatians 5:22 & 23 basically describe the Spirit of God. When we are born again we receive the Spirit of God, and we become like Him because we will spend time with Him. We will have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and goodness... These are the qualities and characteristics of God, otherwise He could not give them to us, for one cannot give what one does not possess.
